Welcome to Women’s Sports, the Place Where the Men are “Better”

Many people are awaiting to watch the 2021 Olympics after they were postponed in 2020. I was lucky enough to catch a women’s softball game. I only watched a few innings of the USA vs. Canada game, and it was a pretty good game. The USA pitcher, Monica Abbot, was obviously better than the Canadian pitcher, but they were pretty evenly matched for the most part.

Well as I was watching, I was listening to the commentators. As I was listening and watching the game, I heard something I wasn’t expecting to hear. The professional softball players were sharing a baseball field with the professional baseball players. That is unspeakable, there was no softball fields built into the Tokoyo Olympic infrastructure. The people who organized the Olympics in Tokoyo knew that softball was going to be apart of the Olympics this year, but they didn’t build any fields. How do you expect us to be able to play softball on baseball fields?

The people who are maintaining the fields simply just moved the bases and mound up to the right measurements and called it a day in order to remedy that problem. Well this to me is an outrage, girls should have the same treatment as the boys. Being 14 years old, I am used to playing on baseball diamonds and everything else when I play. When I watch the professionals play, I expect them to have their own field. They are more intresting to watch, and more fun to watch, therefore they deserve their own field. Sure they don’t have as many viewers as the men but this isn’t the first time that women have been “upstaged” by the men.

In soccer, the women win more then the men do. The women also play a better game then the men (meaning they don’t flop or pretend to get hurt). The funny thing is the women are paid less than the men even though they bring in more revenue from playing. People will often come up with the defense, but the men have been doing it longer than the women. Yeah they have, but that doesn’t mean the women are any less valuable players than the men. I’m not saying that we should intregrate the teams, but we should provide equal treatment for both teams. In other words, what the boys get, the girls should get too or give the money that the boys were given etc.

Although the women often times are better and more fun to watch, the men get all of the spotlight to themselves. I do not like to call myself a feminist, but on this matter I am. Women’s sports are underrated compared to the men’s sports. There is no excuse for it, the men have been around longer and women’s sports aren’t as popular because people are under the impression that playing sports is more of a man’s job. Playing sports can be anyone’s job, it’s not just for the men. Yes, certain sports can be relegated only for men, but in sports that allow women they should be given an equal chance as the men if there is enough intrest. With a lot of the women’s sports there is enough intrest from around the world that they should be given and equal oppertunity, at least in the Olympics.

When they are little kids I understand the sharing fields, but now we are in the big leagues. Women’s sports should be given the same treatment as a men’s sport whether it be on land, water, or bicycle. It just kills me because in this aspect, it is a new world, women are no longer thought of as housewives and maids. They are thought of as working class, everyday Americans. The first step in order to getting women to the same levels as the men is to accept that sports are no longer a man’s job. They can be women and men’s jobs. Both genders can be codominant with each other and dominate in the world of sports.
